Item Description
The London, Midland and Scottish Railway (LMS) was a British railway company, formed in 1923. The Railways Act of 1921 required the grouping of over 120 separate railways into four. LMS was nationalised in 1948, becoming part of British Railways.
Here we have a wooden panel - probably from one of their train carriages with a transfer of the LMS crest. The panel obviously pre-dates 1948 and a similar example can be found in the Science Musuem's archives. This example has aged well; there's some surface scuffs / scratches and there's a little crazing and fading to the transfer but nothing that impacts it's legibility.
A decorative piece with interesting history, the panel measures 32" (81cm) wide x 24" (61cm) high.
