Item Description
A bold abstract oil on canvas painting by Colin Scott (1941–2006), entitled 'Seaweed'. This striking picture has great depth and intrigue to it, drawing the viewer's eye into the spaces inbetween the organic, Dali-esque, fronds. Signed to canvas reverse, but not dated. However, his inspiration for the painting most likely came after his move to Cornwall in the mid-1970s.
Colin Scott was born in Sunderland, which is where he attended the College of Art, graduating in 1966. he then lived in London for a while where he taught art and painted from his studio in Blackheath. In 1974 he moved his family to Penzance in Cornwall, where he set up a new studio to work in. He taught at both Falmouth and Penzance Schools of Art.
