Item Description
VINTAGE CHAIR BY CHARLES DUDOUYT (1885-1946)
A striking and tactile chair that manages to combine rustic design with brutalist modernism to great effect and made using traditional hand made construction methods.
Constructed of oak with oversized, bulbous turned legs and stretchers with carved circular line details, carved wavy back supports, tuned ball finials and with its original woven rush seat.
Dudouyt was a master of this combination of design sensibilities, his designs feature in countless museums, galleries and private collections worldwide.
Made in France and probably dating from the early to mid 20th century period, circa 1940s in date.
The chair is in good vintage condition, the frame has a slight skew to it from years of use which we think adds to its charm but the joints aren’t loose and it feels solid and sturdy. There is cosmetic wear throughout commensurate with age but no serious issues. The original rush seat also has wear consistent with age and use but is still very usable.
Approximate measurements: 49cm wide x 40cm deep x 83cm high. The seat height is approximately 43cm.
