Item Description
A scarce, rare design original untouched early 1950s period woven English lloyd loom open armchair with a beech bentwood frame. Strong & solid with no structural damage. Weighs 6 kilograms. Stands firm, flat & straight with no wobbles or movement. Original wooden board based fabric upholstered padded seat. Original dual element paintwork. Desirable amount of light use & age wear. Extremely comfortable to sit in. Of very high quality & craftsmanship. This chair was made by William Lusty & Sons, London c1951. In the early part of 1951 the company officially relaunched their main manufacturing process after production was almost entirely halted by a factory bombing in WW2 on Saturday the 7th September 1940. Although no makers label remains on this chair there is a clear pin hole to the base indicating there was possibly a makers label attached at some point in the past. Inset stamped underneath into the wooden base frame frontage are the logo letters & numbers CC41 (standing for Controlled Commodity 1941. Interestingly the CC41 logo was originally used on clothing & was also referred to when used on such as Civilian Clothing 1941). This chair was made under the standards & regulations of Britains WW2 utility furniture scheme 1942-1952. In 1942 the CC41 utility furniture scheme was originally set up to ensure scarce wartime resources were used effectively, to a good design & to a high quality. This beautiful & unusual English chair is a great survivor from that era & in wonderful original untouched good clean condition. A striking & rare design period lloyd loom chair.
