Item Description
A fantastic & rare set of original mid 19th century Cast Iron Wall Cresting Rails. Reminiscent in style & design of Augustus Pugin crossing into the early Arts & Crafts period movement designs. There is enough sectional railings for just short of a 5 metre run. They stand at a maximum fitted height of 10 inches. Traditionally these would have been lead fast into position. There is minor age damage & some minor loses. These were reclaimed many years ago & never reused, since then they had been sat in the rafters of a dry barn in Lincolnshire. When they were reclaimed they were professionally cleaned & finished in red oxide, they are now ready to be repainted & fitted. This 5 metre run could also be used to good effect in the garden as edging or a tree surround? They could also be used as interior design elements. Sale is for the whole run. Please enquire for a UK inland delivery quotation.
On a walk through any town or city up & down the country, you will often see original wall cappings with the railings cut off, simply leaving just a small piece of iron lead fast in position. During the War years, residential railings & gates were acquisitioned in their thousands up & down the country, supposedly to be melted down for munitions. Sadly much of the iron taken was never used & was unsuitable for such, later simply being scrapped. Because of this & wall removal in general over time original railings such as these are rarely seen available.
