Item Description

An 18th century creamware mould with a bunch of grapes to the base. This is English, it stands on three peg legs, and it dates from c.1790. The creamware body has a rich greenish glaze and the grape design is deeply moulded. To the rim is a border design which was used not only in moulds but also on creamware services and it was known by two names, the “egg and dart” or the “loop and pin” design. On creamware services it appears in painted enamels in various colour combinations. There are two very small chips to the rims of the mould and one very feint hairline crack which can be seen in the image.
