Item Description
A fabulous, 18th century, miniature French chiffonier. The word chiffonier derived from the French “chiffonnier” meaning “rag-picker” and the term was originally coined in 18th century France as a piece of furniture for storing random odds and ends, scraps or sewing materials. It later evolved into a formal piece resembling a small sideboard for dining rooms. This miniature example is carved in walnut and dates from c.1780. It is beautifully made and would have been made as an apprentice piece. The attractive, curved front and draws would have taken a skilled tradesman. There are a couple of tiny wood worm holes which have been filled but generally it is in very good condition.
Dimensions: Height 63cm. Width 48cm. Depth 23cm.
Price includes postage within the U.K. Shipping to the U.S.A. add £100. Most of Western Europe add £50.
