Item Description
A super quality, 18th century, Wedgwood blue jasper dip bowl. This is marked “WEDGWOOD” and it dates from c.1790. There is also a large, impressed letter “A” to the base, which would be a workman’s mark. The bowl is decorated, in white relief, with four different classical subjects and these are set between anthemion. To the rim is a border of laurel leaves and berries and to the base is a border of acanthus leaves. All of the reliefs are very fine quality, as you would expect of a piece from this period. The jasper dip is a lovely, mid shade of blue which was used in the 18th century but then gave way to either the much darker or much lighter shades of the 19th century. There is a very tiny chip in the blue dip colour, to the rim, but otherwise the bowl is in very good condition.
Dimensions: Diameter 16.8cm. Height 7.8cm.
