Item Description
A nineteenth century, French copper fish kettle or casserole with a folding steel handle. This is made from quite a heavy gauge of copper, it has a castellated seam up the side and it dates from c.1850. Originally it would have been made for use over an open fire and it would have hung over the fire on a tripod. It has heavy brass fittings to take the steel handle, and there is a flat, strap handle to the lid. At some time the base has been replaced and this now has a rolled seam. There is some pitting to the copper, which can be seen in the images, but otherwise it is in good condition. The tinning, to the interior, is worn so now it is purely for decorative use.
Dimensions: Length 49cm. Width 30cm. Height 23cm.
