Item Description

An unusual, and very good quality, early 20th century, Belgian copper, oval gratin dish with cover. Both the side of the gratin, and the lid, are stamped “H. POMMIER BRUXELLES” but this mark is now quite worn. This company was originally founded in 1830 by Michel Van Neuss. His grandson, Hippolyte Pommier, who lived from 1866 to 1936 took over the company and pieces with this mark started around 1910. This piece dates from c.1920. The company is known for producing copper of the highest quality, often 3.5 to 4mm thick with hand hammered details. This piece is made from a very heavy gauge of copper but it has a smooth finish. It is in excellent condition and the interior has been re-tinned so that it can be used. This type of dish rarely has a lid and it is ideal for making a vegetable gratin or dauphinoise potatoes and it can be taken straight from the oven to the table.
Dimensions: Length of dish 33cm. Overall length including the handles 42.5cm. Width 21.4cm. Depth 4.2cm. Overall height including the handle 9cm.
Price includes postage within the U.K. Shipping to the U.S.A. add £30. Most of Western Europe and £15.
