Item Description
A lovely quality, 19th century, sycamore breadboard. This is English and it dates from c.1860. The border is deeply carved with shamrocks, thistles and a rose, these being the emblems on the union of Ireland, Scotland and England. Between the emblems are ears of wheat. The carving is super quality and well detailed. There is a stain is the centre of the board, at the point at which the board would have been held onto the lathe during the turning. There is also a small burn on the face of the board and a larger one on the reverse and there are knife marks to both the face and the reverse, from use.
Dimensions: Diameter 31.5cm. Depth 2cm.
