Item Description
A large brass and steel milliners iron, in the shape of a leaf, dating from c.1910. This type of iron was used for making ornamentation for hats from felt, silk or lace. The fabric was washed and starched and placed over the brass form. The follower was heated and then pushed into the mould and the edge of the fabric would be trimmed to give the final shape. Both parts of this example are stamped twice with a number ”5001”. It is in excellent condition.
