Item Description

A pair of 19th century, Wedgwood black and white jasper dip vases. These are marked “WEDGWOOD” and they date from c.1840 They are also impressed with a small curved mark, which is known as the moustache mark, and the number ”1009”. Each vase is decorated in white relief, with one of the “Muses” to either side. These reliefs are very deep and extremely well detailed. To the sides are lion’s head masks. There are three different, floral border designs to the rim, the foot and the shoulder of the vases and those on the shoulders are particularly fine. There is a small piece of relief missing from the rim on one of the vases but otherwise they are in excellent condition. The relief damage can be seen in one of the images.
