Item Description
A rare, nineteenth century, English breadboard carved with the Latin motto “Te deum Laudamus”. This translates as “We praise you God”. It is carved in beechwood and the motto is carved in a very ornate script. The remainder of the border is carved with wheat and ribbons. The wood has a very dark patina and there is wear to the carving.There was some worm damage to the board but this has now been treated and filled. There are also the usual knife marks to both the face and the reverse of the board from use.
Dimensions: Diameter 29.8cm. Depth 2cm.
