Item Description
A rare advertising bowl for a French confectionery. This bowl is engraved “Maison Gaillard Clermont Fer’d”. In 1871 Gilbert Gaillard, who was the major of Clermont Ferrard in central France, founded the Maison Gaillard which was a high end confectioners and this piece dates from c.1900. The embossed design incorporates the family crest of the Gaillard family, surrounded by grapes and vines. The piece has a brass handle, so that it can hang, and originally the interior was tinned so it could have been used in the sweet making process. It is in excellent condition but the tinning is now worn.
Dimensions: Diameter 18.8cm. Width across the handle 23.6cm. Depth of bowl 6cm.
