Item Description
A rare, French copper, two part, hinged pie mould dating from c.1860. This is decorated with a crest which features a lamb carrying a flag, beneath three fleur de lys, all contained within a shield. To the sides of this are laurel and oak leaves and beneath is the name “ROBERT DROSNY”. This is a combination of Royal French Heraldry and the Agnus Dei (lamb of God) symbol. The three fleur de lys is a specific feature called the “Chief of France” and this was granted to good cities of France or families who performed exceptional service to the French crown. I can find no reference to the name Robert Drosny however it could be D’ Rosny. The town of Rosny-sous-Bois used the symbol in the early 19th century and the symbols match the municipal and regional heraldry of areas associated with the name Rosny. So could this relate to a person called Robert from Rosny. Alternately the surname Drosny does appear in French census records from 1830 to 1950. Also the name de Rosny is associated with the Delegorgue de Rosny family, a branch of the old French bourgeoisie originating from Abbeville in the Somme. This is an incredibly interesting piece historically, which could benefit from further research, and it is in very good condition. The tinning, to the interior, is worn.
