Item Description
A rare, 18th century wall pocket inset with Wedgwood plaques and cut steel. This is a very unusual item and would probably have been made to hold a very small posy of flowers. It dates from c.1790. The metal posy holder is made from brass and this is set onto shagreen backing. To the top and base are small, Wedgwood, dark blue jasper plaques which are surrounded by ormolu mounts. Around these are small flowers which are formed with cut steel and the whole is on a shaped boxwood mount. This is quite a charming piece. The two plaques both have damage. The smaller one at the base is cracked and the larger one at the top, which depicts Neptune, has a chip to the top.
Dimensions: Height 19.5cm. Width 5.5cm. Depth 2.8cm.
