Item Description
A small, Wedgwood black basalt milk or cream jug with enamel decoration. This is marked “WEDGWOOD” and it dates from c.1820. This style of decoration, which was influenced by the floral designs being imported from China, and uses raised polychrome enamels and gilding, was named “Capri Ware” by Wedgwood and it was first produced in 1815. It was produced at various times from then until the early 20th century but this is an early example. The quality of the decoration declined in the later examples. This piece is in excellent condition.
