Item Description
A small, 19th century, white stoneware pestle and mortar. This is made by Wedgwood although the mortar does not bear the factory mark. The pestle is marked “WEDGWOOD” and it is also impressed with a letter “T”. The mortar is impressed “GUARANTEED ACID PROOF” and it is also impressed with “000”. This was Wedgwood’s system for coding the sizes of mortars, with a triple 0 being very small. This is made from a non porous, white stoneware and it dates from c.1860. The pestle has a turned beechwood handle. Both the pestle and mortar are in excellent condition.
Dimensions: Mortar: Height 5.4cm. Diameter 8.7cm. Pestle: Length 15.4cm. Diameter 2.2cm.
