Item Description
An unusual, 19th century, sycamore breadboard carved with a religious motto. This is well carved, in an ornate Gothic script, with “The Earth is the Lords” and it dates from c.1880. This is a motto that we haven’t seen on a breadboard before. The remainder of the border is well carved with wheat, barley and a ribbon. There are a couple of short cracks to the rim of the board and there are the usual knife marks to the face of the board from use. The wood has quite a rich patina.
