Item Description

A most unusual, 18th century, French copper jug with embossed decoration. This is well made, from a very heavy gauge of copper, and it dates from c.1780. It has castellated seams around the base and up the side and these are beautifully worked so that they blend in with the design and are not obvious. The embossed design is very well executed and includes classical scrolls set against a beaded background to the main part of the body, with stylised acanthus leaves to the top section. There is a narrow brass rim to the jug and a hollow brass handle. Originally the jug was tinned inside, so it was made for food use, but the tin is now worn so it could no longer be used for this purpose. There is some denting to the hollow handle but other than that the piece is in very good condition.
Dimensions: Height 33cm. Width 26.5cm. Diameter 22cm.
Price includes postage within the U.K. Shipping to the U.S.A. add £30. Most of Western Europe add £15.
