Item Description
A Wedgwood, dark blue jasper dip biscuit barrel. This is marked “WEDGWOOD” and it dates from c.1860. It is also impressed with a letter “W” which would be the workman’s mark. The decoration is quite unusual. Each side is decorated, in white relief, with an oval cartouche containing Roman figures and horses. The cartouches are surrounded by bands of acanthus leaves and there is a band of grapes and vines to the shoulder of the barrel. The reliefs are all very good quality and the jasper dip is a good, rich shade of blue. The mount and lid are silver plated and the piece is in excellent condition.
