Item Description
A fabulous quality, Wedgwood black basalt figure of Aphrodite, complete with a large basalt bowl. These figures were designed, with pierced holes in the rocky base, so that they would sit in a bowl of water and you would put small flowers into the holes. This made a beautiful table centrepiece and sometimes you would even put tiny goldfish into the water. The figure is marked “WEDGWOOD MADE IN ENGLAND” but the bowl is only marked “WEDGWOOD”. They date from c.1920. The figure is beautifully modelled and has a lovely patina. There is a chip to the rock, at the base of the figure, which otherwise is in good condition. The bowl is in excellent condition. Dimensions: Aphrodite: Height 31.5cm. Width at base 13.5cm. Bowl: Diameter 35.5cm. Height 8cm.
