Item Description
A Wedgwood, dark blue jasper dip campana vase and cover. This is marked “WEDGWOOD” and it dates from c.1850. It is also impressed with a large letter “J”, which is the workman’s mark, and a number ”8”. This should relate to the height of the vase in inches, however, the vase alone is 8 1/4 inches high and, with the cover, it is much larger. The vase is decorated, in white relief, with a continuous band of classical figures, some offering sacrifices. Between these are trees, flowers and potted plants. Beneath the figures is a band of acanthus leaves alternating with a classical motif and this is repeated on the lid. To the rim and foot of the vase are leaf borders. The reliefs are good quality and the jasper dip is a rich shade of blue. Both the vase and cover are in perfect condition.
