Item Description
A dark green, Wedgwood jasper dip jug. This is marked “WEDGWOOD ENGLAND” and it dates from c.1910. It is also impressed with a number “36” which would be a batch number, and a letter “S”. This shade of green was known as Dysart green as originally the colour was developed for Earl Dysart. There were problems with the manufacture of the colour, due to the deep green pigment bleeding into the white relief, so the production only lasted from 1906 to 1912 when it was discontinued. This jug is decorated with a continuous band of classical maidens offering sacrifices and to the rim is a border of grapes and vines. There is a very small piece of the relief missing on the band around the base. This can be seen in the image. Otherwise the piece is in good condition.
Dimensions: Length 10cm. Width 7cm. Height 11.8cm.
