Item Description
A Wedgwood, Ivory Ware vase with raised gilt decoration. This has a red, transfer printed mark with “WEDGWOOD” beneath a Portland Vase and it dates from c.1870. During this period the Wedgwood pottery was experimenting with many different styles of pottery, copying Royal Worcester amongst others. Many of the pieces produced at this time were not at all representative of Wedgwood’s usual wares. This piece is decorated in the oriental manner, with raised gilt flowers in varying shades of gold and bronze. This type of decoration was also done on basalt and is known as Auro Basalt. The overall effect is quite elegant and the vase is in excellent condition.
Dimensions: Height 27.5cm. Diameter 9cm.
