Item Description
A genuinely beautiful pair of C19th French fauteuil with fluted tapered legs, carved rosettes and the original soft grey paint which has authentically weathered with age. The quality of the carving, especially on the cresting rail is fabulous - ears of wheat tied with a bowed ribbon may have been commissioned specifically for a family for whom this was pertinent as it's not a common decorative feature.
Upholstered in a wonderful, textural blue & white stripe with a blue braided finish which echoes the suble blue painted details on the frame - the upholstery is not new but is in very good and serviceable condition. The generously wide seats are very well sprung and comfortable and there's no movement in the frame.
Please note that these chairs are low and have always been so. Originally they would have had castors attached to the bottom of the legs which have been removed which would have raised the seats a little but they were designed as bedroom chairs so would have always been on the low side.
