Item Description

A Super English 1930s Oak Glazed School Cabinet

A rather fine looking 1930s school glazed oak bookcase/cabinet of good proportions in the favoured English oak. This one, of solid oak offers lower panelled doors with a shelf splitting the storage and a top half with two adjustable shelves.

These are always difficult to find and this one is a good example of what would have stood in many a school and college from the 1930s. We have a good well figured deep bottom plinth, 2 well panelled oak doors, a pleasing on the eye glazed top half with 6 oak beaded panes to both doors and a good top plinth.

Workshop report - The cabinet sits in good order - we of course have day to day historic marks etc but nothing nasty or off putting. The top glazed half possesses a working lock and key. The lower half does have a lock  and key but its a little temperamental and thus closes by way of an oak turn button. We have 2 original pine shelves to the top which are adjustable and a similar deeper shelf to the bottom cupboard, again adjustable. The solid oak cabinet is in pleasing historic order with some wear but nothing nasty. The original glass is crack and repair free. The cabinet does split into two for placing and easier moving. Of course nice and weighty and has been cleaned and carefully waxed.

A wonderful piece of 1930s British education furniture, very much in demand.
