Item Description
An oil on canvas by British artist Tom Butler depicting a seated figurative nude, signed and dated 1998 lower left. Executed with confident palette knife and brushwork, the composition captures the expressive immediacy of a life study through a rich palette of warm ochres, soft pinks and cool blue-grey tones. Presented unframed on stretched canvas.
The reverse retains the artist's original handwritten label identifying the work as an Advanced Life Drawing study completed during a Wednesday class led by the respected British painter and tutor Jane Joseph. Joseph studied at Camberwell School of Arts and Crafts before establishing a distinguished career as both an exhibiting artist and influential teacher in London, adding an appealing layer of provenance to the work.
