Item Description
This Mercury glass footed candlestick has etched ferns & foliage decoration and is gilded inside
-Mercury glass was originally called- 'Poor Mans Silver'
Mercury glass (silvered glass) is double walled glass with a silvering solution applied between the layers giving it a shining silver appearance
(Called mercury glass though silver nitrate was more commonly used)
The technique originated in Germany C1840's
Exterior in good condition but the interior is damaged, image 5 but can still be used for candles.
It has. a little cork seal in the base
Dimensions: Height 16cm, diameter at rim 6.5cm, diameter at base 7cm
