Item Description
A money bank in the form of the Coronation Chair, made as a souvenir to mark the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II on 2nd June 1953. The ancient chair, also known as King Edward's Chair, was made to house the Stone of Scone and has been in use since 1308. This money box is made of cast iron with bronze colouring to the surface and gold highlighting to the top rail. It is nicely modelled with quite a lot of detail.
It was made by John Harper & Co, a company well known for their money banks. The back bears the Harper name and 'Reg Design App For'. The slot for your coins is just below the seat. The base undoes with screws so you can retrieve your pennies.
The bank is in good condition with a little wear to the paintwork commensurate with its age.
