Item Description
The Ancient Order of Foresters is a British friendly society which was formed in 1834... This tin deed box dates to the early 20th century and presumably originates from one of their branches, or perhaps the offices of one of their banks / solicitors.
The lettering is hand painted as was typical of the boxes from this period, though whoever did this lettering did so with a bit more flamboyance than most. The box is fitted with two locks to ensure at least two people were present before the documents inside were accessed - both keys long lost.
The box has plenty of dents, knocks and scratches; all indicative of a working life spanning over decades - part of the character / charm.
The box measures 47cm wide x 31cm high x 32cm deep.
