Item Description
This late Victorian / early Edwardian children's rocking horse absolutely oozes charm. The structure of the horse is made from wood and is covered in printed paper with wonderfully detailed depictions of the horses' muscular limbs and head which complete with bejewelled harness. The seat area is perfectly worn and traces of leather trim with brass studding remain in place. The inner surfaces, which aren't paper clad, are painted in a nicely faded, duck egg blue. A rare survivor, this piece remains in remarkably good condition with the majority of the paper covering in tact and nicely worn in the areas that you'd expect it. The pegs for the hands and feet remain in place, the colours have gently faded but are still clear - the only element that's missing is the horses' tail which would probably have been made from actual horse hair and has, inevitably, deteriorated faster than the rest of the piece. A fantastically decorative piece, the horse measures 110cm long x 60cm high x 40cm wide.
