Double-Sided, Reverse Painted Glass Cafe Sign

A mesmerisingly attractive piece; this double-sided hanging sign for the Elnora Cafe is reverse painted on glass, the background is painted and the lettering left clear so that the crinkled foil centre is visible.
It's a sign making technique that seems to have been fairly popular around the 1920s/'30s and I've seen a fair range of subject matters from bicycles to bakeries but due to their inherent vulnerability surviving examples are scarce...

This example has survived the decades in good order - there's slight deterioration of the painted surface on both sides causing a little 'mottling' to the black painted background and there's a small amount of oxidation to the foiled material, visible through the lettering but this is all inevitable evidence of aging that helps add to the sign's character and charm ... It's in significantly better order than many of the other examples I've encountered that use this manufacturing technique and it’s the perfect subject matter for a bit of kitchen decor.. It has a nicely weathered painted metal surround / hanging brackets and retains its original hanging arm which is threaded at one end ... It could be hung with or without this.

It displays beautifully, the foiled inner catching the light as you move around it.

It measures 62cm wide (78cm inc. bracket) x 46cm high (57.5cm inc. bracket) x 1.5cm deep.

Due to it's fragile nature collection from the shop or delivery in person / via handled courier would be preferable to posting - please get in touch with your address and I can work out the best options for getting it to you safely.
