Item Description
This double-sided, French tin flange sign for Mamellor (animal feeds) is a simple yet charming piece with very 'of the period' illustrations of the pig and calf faces...
The sign was produced by Tolaque of Strasbourg-Hoenheim. The company being an off-shoot of the French enamel sign manufacturers Emaillerie Alsacienne that was formed after WW2 to produce advertising signage using the Serigraphy (screen printed) technique that we see here. These tin signs were less hard wearing than their enamel counterparts but cheaper to produce and have this instantly recognisable simple, layered design.
This particular example probably dates to the 1970s. These flanged signs were designed to stick out from the face of a building at a 90 degree angle. The sign evidences decades exposed to the elements with rust starting to leech through the printed surface, though one face has this significantly more than the other. Regardless the piece displays well with the sort of vintage aesthetic that just can't be artificially replicated. The sign has no major dents or folds and the original flange is present and functional.
It measures 60cm wide x 39.5cm high and the flange is 5cm deep.
