Item Description
Set of four hand finished chromolithograph plates from the first edition of Fritz Leuba’s ‘Les Champignons Comestibles et les Especes Veneneuses’, published in Paris in 1890.
Fritz Leuba (1848-1910) was a mycologist and artist from Neuchatel, Switzerland. ‘Les Champignons Comestibles et les Especes Veneneuses’ is a rare and beautiful work on mushrooms, presenting 52 of the most artistic and decorative prints of mushrooms in botanical illustration. All of the edible species are represented, including the exotic truffle & a few of the most well known poisonous species. The prints are titled with the scientific name given by Italian mycologist Giovanni Antonio Scopoli in 1772.
These examples are of morel mushrooms (plates XLIV, XLVI & XLVII) and false morel mushrooms (plate XLVIII) and are presented behind glass in bespoke frames, hand made to conservation standards.
