Educated in Westminster and at Christ Church, Oxford, the later Marquis of Stafford was the Member of Parliament for Newcastle-Under-Lyme from 1779 - 1784 and the county of Staffordshire from 1787 - 1799. He also held positions as an Ambassador to France during their revolutionary years and held various other posts until his passing.
