This is a vintage Thangka 'Wheel of Life' painting. An Indian, handpainted linen Buddhist panel, dating to the mid 20th century, circa 1960.

Originating as a profound depiction of the teachings of Shakyamuni Buddha, the Thangka Wheel of Life is a visual realisation of how the mind works. Drawn up initially as a royal gift, each section of the display represents individual themes in stages. To the centre, The Three Delusions - represented as a pig, snake and rooster. This trio represent Ignorance, Anger and Attachment respectively. In the next section, the Six Realms - Gods Realm, Human, Hungry Ghost, Hell, Animals and the Demi Gods realm. Finally, to the outer edge of the circle, the Six Sages: Sage of the Gods; Sage of Splendid Fabric; Sage of the Shakyas; Sage of Splendid Lion; Sage of Flaming mouth; and Sovereign of Dharma.
