Item Description
Set of 6 Edwardian Country House Dining Chairs
A fabulous set of original dining chairs for reupholstery. The chairs have their original makers mark – A S Major & Son, Constitution Hill Birmingham.
Alfred Sinclair Major was initially an ironmonger in 1881. By 1891 his business changed to hats, describing his occupation on the census that year and 1901 as Hatter/ Shopkeeper. Son Alfred P was a cabinet maker. By 1911 Alfred Sinclair Major’s status was cabinet maker and house furnisher and he still had premises at Constitution Hill in 1925. The Constitution Hill premises appear to have been very much a family business set-up.
Each chair in this set is solid and sturdy with turned legs on we believe the original casters. The fabric is in need of replacing – see photos. Once upholstered they would make stunning dining chairs.
