Item Description
An unusual wall shelf unit from a French apothecary’s shop. The four staggered waterfall shelves are supported by wooden columns in the Doric style. So although it’s a utilitarian piece, the decorative column detail references the Empire style, which was so popular in France throughout the 19th century. The triangular pediment is also in the classical style. The pediment is in flame mahogany, while the shelves are in a more rustic oak. This is a fairly heavy item, so it requires robust wall fixings. It would look great in a retail setting again, but it would also be an impressive storage/display piece in a private home. |
