Item Description

A distinguished Victorian silver‑mounted claret jug, hallmarked Sheffield 1878 and crafted by the highly regarded silversmiths William & George Sissons. This elegant jug features a beautifully blown glass body with star‑cut base, topped with finely executed sterling silver mounts, including a beaded collar, scroll handle, and hinged lid with domed finial.

What sets this example apart is its exceptional aristocratic provenance. The jug bears a crisp presentation inscription from Clementina Elizabeth Heathcote‑Drummond‑Willoughby, the 24th Baroness Willoughby de Eresby, one of the most prominent female peers of the Victorian era and hereditary Lord Great Chamberlain. Items personally gifted by titled aristocracy are rare survivors and highly desirable to collectors of historic silver.

The hallmarks are clear and well‑struck, confirming the date and the William & George Sissons attribution. The glass is bright and free from clouding, with no chips or cracks (though the photo's look cloudy it is just a reflection and this claret jug is pristine and clear with Victorian star cut bottom.
