Item Description
LARGE ANTIQUE FRENCH MIRROR
An arched gilt framed mirror with beautiful foliate details of oak leaves and roses.
Original sparkly mercury mirror plate with highly decorative natural foxing throughout.
Probably dating from the early to mid-19th century period during the reign of Louis Philippe.
The frame is largely in good vintage condition; it is distressed in places, has some minor losses and on the bottom edge the gilding has worn away. We think this wear adds a romantic charm to the piece and the overall look is the reason we fell for the piece in the first place. The original mirror plate is distressed and foxed; again, we think this adds to its aesthetic. The top right section of the plate has mostly worn away.
There is some old, dead woodworm visible from the reverse; which we have treated for good measure.
Approximate measurements: 110cm high x 86cm wide x 7cm deep.
