Item Description
ANTIQUE ORIGINAL OIL ON CANVAS PAINTING DEPICTING A FEMALE SITTER
A sensitive and charming portrait depicting an earnest, rosy-cheeked young woman with beautiful greyish eyes and pretty features, dressed in a simple creamy white dress pinned with a coral brooch which compliments her pink lips to a tee. Her hair is styled in a typically Regency era updo with soft curls on her forehead.
The painting is unsigned but is painted by a skilled hand, the artist has really managed to bring the sitter to life.
Probably dating from the early 19th century English Regency period c. 1820. Very reminiscent of depictions of Jane Austin novels.
Framed in its original and highly decorative deep set gilt frame.
The painting is in great vintage condition with no serious issues and no holes or tears to the canvas. There is some wear commensurate with age, including some craquelure to the surface, some minor blemishes and some yellowing to the varnish but overall it survives and presents well. The frame is also in good vintage condition with no serious issues but some minor wear to the gilding and minor losses. There is some old dead woodworm present on the reverse of the frame which we have treated for good measure.
Overall approximate measurements: 59cm x 54cm x 8cm. The canvas measures approximately 47cm x 42cm.
