Item Description

SET OF VINTAGE TOLE LIDDED JARS

A matching set of gold-painted tin storage canisters on their original wall-mounted shelf.

Seven canisters in total, each one labelled in black type, ‘Tea, Coffee, Currants, Sultanas, Rice, Flour and Sugar’.

Probably dating from the early 20th century, circa 1920s in date.

This particular set doesn’t have a maker’s mark present; similar shelving units were marked, but we believe these to be later examples, dating from the 1930s-1950s. After doing a bit of research, this earlier set could quite possibly be by Orme Evans & Co. Ltd of Wolverhampton. We have matched this particular canister shape to their catalogues dating from the 1920s.

Overall, the set is in good vintage order. There is wear throughout commensurate with age/use. There is a naturally built-up patina from years in a kitchen, which we think adds to its charm and aesthetic, so we have left them like this, but they could quite possibly be cleaned if that is a preference.

Approximate measurements:

Shelf overall - 61cm high x 48cm wide x 17cm deep.

Largest canister (Flour) - 23cm high x 13cm diameter.

Medium-sized canisters (Rice and Sugar) - 18cm high x 17cm diameter.

Smallest canisters (Tea, Coffee, Currants and Sultanas) - 15cm high x 11cm diameter.
