Item Description

A pair of original Cikada safari chairs, designed by Bengt Ruda (1918-1999) for Swedish company Möbel Ikea, C1960.  Made from beech wood with tan leather armrests. They have their original black canvas covers intact, which have a wonderful 'denim-like' patina to the surface.

Ruda was the first trained designer hired by Ikea in 1957, already having garnered awards and international renown for his work. He enjoyed the freedom to create and having full control over the materials used, working with the Swedish company until 1971.
