Item Description
Style: A dreamy landscape oil on canvas, this village scene depicts simple houses nestled on a hillside overlooking a small lake, surrounded by trees. Visible brushstrokes beautifully capture light and color in hues of green, yellow, and pink. Framed and signed Zdeněk Blažek 1947. Czech painter and architect (1904-2000)
Story: Artist Zdeněk received his artistic education from prominent mentors, studying with Professor Blažíček at the Academy in Prague and architecture at the Czech Technical University under J. Gočár. He also attended Vladimír Sychra's private school of drawing and painting in Mánes. A prolific portraitist, he captured many important actors of the National Theater. He was also an excellent landscape painter, with his work represented in collections in Germany, Switzerland, Sweden, Holland, and other countries.
