Item Description
Style: An iconic Thonet bentwood bistro chair featuring a curved back and circular seat, both detailed with a stylish embossed faux reptile 'crocodile' pattern. Sturdy and decorative, it is built on tapered legs with a classic circular stretcher. Circa 1920's-30's.
Seat height 47cm
Story: Dating mostly from the 1920s and 30s, these chairs bridge three major design movements: Art Nouveau, Art Deco, and Bauhaus. The distinctive crocodile texture was made by pressing plywood or beech panels through heavy steel rollers under extreme pressure. This created a tough, textured finish designed to endure the daily wear and tear of busy European cafes.
