Item Description
Style: A substantial, honest jug – a piece of 20th-century stoneware built to last, rooted firmly in the earth. In the style of John Leach (son of David Leach), the surface features a ridged texture, overlaid with a geometric pattern that flows down the form's curves, creating an almost dripped effect. The makers mark on the bottom side is listed as 'recognised but unknown' on the online database of 20-21st century British and Irish Studio Pottery.
Story: The history of studio pottery jugs in the UK is linked to Bernard Leach, William State Murray and Michael Cadew. Studio potters, among others (including ourselves), believe ceramics are on par artistically with painting and sculpture.
