Item Description

Style: A delightful pair of 19th century French Louis XVI style revival oak dining chairs in a painted finish. These classic seats showcase carved quiver-of-arrows and torch crests, fluted front legs, and refined neoclassical column details. Finished with a distressed limed patina, the chairs currently feature their original neutral cotton backing and are ready to be reupholstered in the fabric of your choice.

Seat height 47cm

Story: This style is deeply rooted in 18th century French neoclassicism. The quiver of arrows and flaming torch constitute one of the most prominent 'Trophies of Love' in classical art history, with the quiver symbolising Eros/Cupid, and the torch representing Hymenaeus, the god of marriage. Below, the tapered legs mimic the look of classical Roman and Greek architectural columns.
