Item Description
A handsome Victorian Gothic Revival hall chair. Robustly constructed from solid oak and stained, showcasing a striking back beautifully inset with three intricately pierced panels. It offers a smooth, polished wooden seat, supported by prominently ring-turned front legs and balanced by elegantly out swept rear legs. It's a beautiful pairing with the Victorian Pembroke style mahogany table available for sale.
The Gothic Revival was the dominant artistic, architectural, and cultural movement in Victorian Britain. Its early champion, A.W.N. Pugin (1812–1852), argued that the Gothic, or Christian, style embodied an era of artistic and moral superiority, a stark contrast to the 'pagan' classicism that had prevailed in Europe since the Renaissance.
